The Plastic Warrior Show Saturday 7th Of June, Warhammer 40K, & French Foreign Legion
Three cheers for.......The Plastic Warrior Show!
This will be a shorter blog entry than normal, because I have been too busy with family and other commitments, including trying to sort out some toys to sell at the Plastic Warrior show this Saturday.
This is always more difficult than I expect, as whilst I know I have way too many toys in the toy room, they always make a case for not being sold! I am sure I am not alone in this as we all like to buy more toys! Anyway after wrestling with my conscience and acknowledging my lack of storage space (knowing a substantial acquisition is coming soon....more of which another day), I have managed to find plenty of toys to fill my table at Plastic Warrior!
So if you are reading this and can make it along to the show, please come and say hello and add some new recruits to your own armies....there will be plenty to choose from I can assure you! I normally go back with more in the car than when I drove down!

I counted them all out......Warhammer 40K game, Dark Angels versus Sisters of Battle
I suspect most of my regular visitors are traditional toy soldier enthusiasts but as a lifelong wargamer, I have spent a great deal of my life gaming with smaller wargame figures. I have dabbled in lots of different historical periods and genres. Science Fiction has always been a passion with me and Warhammer 40k, a game produced by Games Workshop, has been a favourite since its creation back in 1987. I still have a large collection of WH40K armies, mainly made up of early metal figures.
The game was with one of my oldest friends, Ted, who worked for Games Workshop for a good many years. He and I have been friends since the early 1980's when we met through the Birmingham branch of Games Workshop where he worked at the time. He later went on to run the Games Workshop mail order department, before working in the studio at GW HQ in Nottingham. We still periodically get together for a game and a 'catch up' here at Apperley Towers.
A lick of paint......French Foreign Legion
Although life has been busy I have managed a little work on the collection of French Foreign Legion figures that I am refurbishing. All classic Britains hollow casts and there will eventually be a full regiment of almost 30 figures. I have long wanted some of these and am very pleased to finally be getting some ready for the tabletop.
So that's it for this post.....hope to see some of you at the PW show on Saturday. A full blog report on the show will follow next week for those of you who couldn't make it.
Tara a bit!
A very impressive Warhammer collection Graham! The figures and tanks are beautiful, but your table and terrain are really brilliant! Your French Foreign Legion troops look excellent, your paint work is exactly right! Have a wonderful time at the PW Show! As one of the unfortunates that is unable to attend, I look forward to your report with great anticipation!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brad. Your comments are always appreciated and encouraging. I am looking forward to the show and will take lots of photos!
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful box of figures you're selling Graham - someone is going to go home with some lovely toys!
ReplyDeleteThe Foreign Legion figures look splendid
Thanks ! I hope they will find a new home ☺️
ReplyDeleteHello Graham, I am looking forward to seeing your French regiment on active service. I have several battalions of the same (each twelve figures strong). I think Paul Watson made the project viable when he sponsored/supplied near 25% of my figures. I do like the Britains rendition of French infantry and zouaves. As Brad mentions, hope you are able to give us some insight on the event.....and you have a safe trip.
ReplyDeleteMichael
Michael I didn't realise you had such a large French force. Yes lovely figures. I have another 24 line infantry to paint at some point lol!
DeleteGraham, my French are not packed away (they are on a book shelf) so I'm still able to count them. LINE 12, 12, 8, 9, 1 mtd, CHASSEURS 6, also serving as pioneers 6, ZOUAVES 10, 9, 5, MARINES 12, 12, 1 mtd, FIREMEN 4. There is also some rather nice early TIMPO PLASTIC FOREIGN LEGION 12, 13. A bit irregular in their establishments, the collection still needs some new recruits in the correct positions, lol. But they have been in several games.

Hi Michael....and that highlights why my armies keep growing. My infantry are in 12's and my cavalry 6's , but I then end up with say another 2 castings exra, whilst trying to finish the unit and a voice in my head says 'why not make them into 2 units ?' lol!
DeleteMy repaired and undercoated figure boxes have over 100 figures awaiting paint and due to my eye problems, my painting rate is now glacial. Still at least it keeps me busy!
Send me a photo by email of the number and poses you need and I will see if I have any spares. I may not but its worth a look.
That is a very kind offer, Graham. If anything were to occur, I will demand the right to reciprocate, with something equally useful, and painted........ it's only fair!
DeleteFair enough lol
